Essay-good copy

Mercutio is considered one of the most important  characters in Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet". Mercutio is the Prince's nephew, and is friends with both the Capulets and Montagues. He gives the audience more information throughout the play, and foreshadows the devastating events but more importantly, he is Romeo's friend.

One reason Mercutio is considered the important character is because he is the first to see that Romeo is deeply in love. When Romeo complains about the amount of love he has for Rosaline, Mercutio tells him to get over it.

Another reason Mercutio is considered important is because he views love as something imaginary and makes sexual jokes about it, he argues that love is a dream and dreams are nothing, and because of his view on love, he makes the plot more interesting. Mercutio not only has a problem with love but infact he's also pretty hostile towards women and female sexuality in general. An example of this includes when he lists Roseline's body parts:
I must conjure him.
I conjure thee by Rosaline's bright eyes,
By her high forehead and her scarlet lip,
By her fine foot, straight leg and quivering thigh
And the demesnes that there adjacent lie,
That in thy likeness thou appear to us!

The last reason, is because of his queen mob speech:
This is that very Mab
that plats the manes of horses in the night,
And bakes the elflocks in foul sluttish hairs,
Which once untangled, much misfortune bodes:
This is the had, when maids lie on their backs,
That presses them and learns them first to bear,
Making them women of good carriage
In the queen mob speech, Mercutio says that women who are "hag-ridden" by queen mob, are learning how to beat, for example bear children, all the weight of the man on them.

In conclusion, Mercutio was considered important for many reasons, how he was the prince's nephew and was friends with both sides of the family, how he understood Romeos love for roseline, and more importantly, his queen mob speech.

Stress relieve song

MThe song I chose was pocket full of sunshine by Natasha Beddingfield. This song reminds me that no matter what people say to me I should always keep my head up because I am always happy, and always look on the bright side. The part of this song that connects to me is a part of the hook:
Do what you want,
but you're never gonna break me,
sticks and stones are never gonna shake me
The part When she says you're never gonna break me,
sticks and stones are never gonna shake me
It means that you won't let anyone's criticism bother you. relates to me cause I'm always happy and that no matter what other people say, they won't hurt me cause I'm strong and I don't feel offended by their words or what they say to me.

Essay outline

Mercutio is often considered one of Shakespeare's best characters and yet he is killed quite early in this play. Discuss how the relationships Mercutio is in influence his behaviour/choices, and discuss WHY you think so many people (including me) find him interesting and pleasure to watch/read. What do you think Shakespeare would say about his character Mercutio? Would he like him? Would he think he was brave, honourable, immature, ignorant, or wise?

I find Mercutio interesting for many reasons:
- he wants the 2 families to be in peace
-he is the first to see that Romeo is deeply in love
-Mercutio views love as something imaginary and makes sexual jokes about it, he argues that love is a dream and dreams are nothing
-because of his view on love, his jokes, he makes the plot more interesting

I think that Shakespeare would think of Mercutio as wise and immature. He might think he's wise because if Shakespeare thought that love is nothing, he might agree with Mercutio's words that it's just a dream and dreams are nothing. He might think he's immature on the jokes that he makes about love.

LOVE

Love

Lady Montague/Lord Montague:

“Where is Romeo, he was sad and crying. My depressed son runs away from the light and comes home, and locks himself in his room and locks out the daylight. He is an advisor to his own affections, keeps it all to himself. I think that he needs some advice or someone to talk to. He won’t tell me so Benvolio can go talk to him. I don’t know why he is sad but the Capulets better not be a part of this. I don’t think it is something irrelevant like love, why would you cry about love when you have your family to love you. I wish I could hear his confession but I have to leave, come madam, let’s leave. I think that Romeo should care more about our reputation more then who he loves, because if he loves a capulet, it will ruin our reputation.

We don't want Romeo to be in love with a capulet, they are our enemies. There are many girls here he could love just like me and lady Montague. Our relationship didn't ruin our reputation because we aren't enemies. It would be better if we decide who Romeo would marry.
I don't want Romeo to commit any mistakes with his life but I don't think he will listen to us, he would just ignore us. I think it would be better if someone his own age will tell him what his mistakes are.

Mid-term

I think the mark I deserve for English is 88% which is an A I think

A: I'm always in class on time, I take part in class activities and always come with a positive attitude and ready to learn. I pay attention and use my time efficiently most of the time but sometimes, I get distracted and I'm trying to ignore it. I think that one thing that I need to improve on is socializing because to be honest, I think I socialize with a lot with my friends, but I try to stop it by sometimes ignoring them.(21/25)

B: All my assignments are handed in on time, and I have all of them done. But sometimes I get busy with homework from other classes, but I try to handed it on time. Or I usually submit it asap the next day. (23/25)

C: I try my best on my assignments and I sometimes get ideas from other people. When I'm done my assignment, I compare it to atleast 2-3 other people in the class and try to improve mine. One persons assignment I always compare my assignment to is Harinas, because she has a good choice of vocab and her work is usually really detailed. I try to explain my work well so people could understand it. One thing that I think I'm doing well in English 10 is the Shakespeare assignments, like translating some of the lines for the chorus, plus I also enjoy it! But another thing that I think I should improve on is the poems, like how we compared the poem "To a Stranger" to the authors life, I think that's the area im stuggling in. (21/25)
Harinas work compared to mine^

Part D:
I think I work well with my classmates and I comment on other peoples blogs, take part in edmodo conversations and help others. (23/25)

-"From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;"

-The son and daughter of these two families which are enemies, have fallen in love w/each other and take their lives.

-"Whole misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents’ strife"

-Because of their 2 death, the 2 families started to then get along and had ended their rivalry

"The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love, And the continuance of their parents’ rage"

- the two lovers death has marked love and an end to the 2 families rivalry

-"Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove"

- and the only way the rivalry was ended was because of their death

-"Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend"

Walt whitham- to a stranger

Walt Whitham was born on May 31st, 1819.He was an American poet, essayist and journalist. His father was Walter Whitham and his mother was Louisa Van Velsor, and he was the 2nd of 9 siblings. Walt was generally assumed to be homosexual or biosexual. In 1833, Walt's family moved back to the West Hills leaving Walter alone at the age of 14, so he could learn how to set type under the Patriot's foreman printer William Hartshorne. Walt also had many different careers, he was a part of the printing trade, then he become a teacher, then in 1841, Walt quit teaching and started his own newspaper company called "The Long Islander", but an year later the company shut down because of his effortless work, and he returned back to being a teacher.

His poem "To a Stranger", can be based on many things mentioned above. In one of the lines, it says "You grew up with me, were a boy with me, or a girl with me, I ate with you, and slept with you—your body has become not yours only, nor left my body mine only". Since Walt had many brothers and sister, this could be based on his relationship with them. Because it says you grew up w/me, were a boy or girl, this can mean it was either his siter or brother. Also it says I ate w/you, slept with you, because Walt lived in the same house and same roof as his siblings, it's obvious that they ate together and all slept together in one room.

In another line "I am to wait—I do not doubt I am to meet you again" this could be based on his career as a teacher. Because since he was a teacher and then he quit and he became a teacher again, he might've made a friend who he got super tight with. But when he figured out he liked working with a newspaper company better, he probably retired and didnt want to work in a classrom as a teacher again. So this means that since he might not become a teacher again, he doubts he might meet his friend again.

Also in one line, where it says "I am not to speak to you—I am to think of you when I sit alone, or wake at night alone." I think this means that when Walt was 14, his parents left him in the city alone. And he might've written this based on that part of his life when he wasnt able to talk to his parents and he mightve thought about them when he was alone or awake at night alone.

I personally think that this poem is based on Walt's life and what he has been through. Because when I read about him online, I realized that there were many events in his life where he was separated from his loved ones.

Assignment 5

If I were in Charles Bukowski's place, I would not be satisfied with what I have. There are many reasons for this, but one of it is Charles did not live in a good environment, he got beaten up almost everyday by his dad. I would want to be living in a good and safe environment if I were in Charles place. Also he lived in a ghetto neighborhood, I would want to have a proper house and at least one car. I would also want to go to school and get a good education and make some friends, etc. I would also want mom and dad who love me and care for me, not getting beaten or cut by them.  People say money doesn't buy happiness but if I were in his place, it would. Cause if Charles had money, he would've lived in a nice house, gone to a good school and couldve gotten a good education and a nice job.

Parent teacher interviews

If my parents ask about my grade in English i would say the reason why we didn't get a mark in English is because since its only been 3-4 weeks,we only did like 4-5 assignments. And I would show them my edmodo and the assignments that were assigned to me  and then I would show them my blog, and let them compare my assignments to atleast 3 other people. I would tell them what I think I should get for my work habits (G,S,N) and why I deserve this.

Tattoo assignment

If I ever had to get a tattoo, I would get it on my wrist and it would say one God. The reason I would get this is because it has a very religious meaning behind it. In my religion, everyone believes that there is one God for every religion, and I respect that. I would get this on the top of my hand because that's the more clean part. It would be a small tattoo. When people see my tattoo, I want them to understand that I believe there is one God, and I am proud of my religion. My core values are represented in this tattoo. I think this tattoo would be good for me because I believe that there is one God, the creator of this universe, one God for all of us.

Assignment 4-Extended metaphor

The term extended metaphor refers to a comparison between two unlike things that continues throughout a series of sentences in a paragraph or lines in a poem.

An example of an extended metaphor I chose was from Shakespeare's play "As You Like It"

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”

In the metaphor above, Shakespeare has compared the world to a stage.

Assignment 3-Myers Briggs personality test

Today I took the Myers-Briggs personality test and I got EIFJ. Personally,I think some of this is right but some of this is wrong.I got extraverted, and I agree on that because I'm open to everyone and share my feelings, because whenever I'm down or sad, I always need to talk to someone and share my feelings w/them. For the next one, I got intuition but personally I think that I gather information based on evidence. The next one I got was feeling, I think this one is right because I use my feelings most of the time because I usually speak what comes from my heart. And the last one I got was judgmental, and I think I can sometimes be like that, but in a nice way. I learnt that I can be sometimes open to other people and I use my feelings more then my mind. Before  this I had thought of myself as a person to keep my feelings to herself, but after taking this, I realized I am more open about my feelings. The person that was related to this was Johnny depp. Below is a screenshot of my test.

Assignment 2-teen themes

Being a teenager is pretty exiting and challenging for me. I made many new friends and met new teachers in high school. My mom and dad are pretty chill most of the time, but when it comes to education and school, they can be pretty strict because they want me to have a bright future and go to a good university and have a well paid job. As a teenager I am being more responsible at home and at school, because I want to be a good role model for my younger siblings and for the community. School is a place where I can get life long learning from expert teachers and brilliant classmates. In the school, I like to take part in dance and I really enjoyed foods class because i can prepare the food of my own choice. I really enjoy the winter extravaganza because I love watching the performances the teachers set up. I like to take part in dance because I get a chance to spend time with my friends when we do practice. I feel that school is a mixed  journey of challenges and excitements.

Assignment 1- past history in English

English is one of my favorite subjects in school because I enjoy reading, writing and learning new vocabulary. My past years of English in high school have been going pretty well. In grade 8 I had Mr.Moffet as an English teacher and we did a lot of good projects in that class, like writing book reports, poems, etc. In grade 9 I had Ms. Yahn for English and I found it okay for me because it got to a little higher level. I find writing essays a little tough and that's one thing I want to improve on in English 10. I look forward to this year and I hope I learn some new vocabulary throughout this year in English 10:)
